Selecting the Right Audio Control Speakers

The three series cater to different needs:

  • EPICPRO: the affordable entry-level option, featuring 16.5-cm and 20-cm models as well as the 6x9" EPICPRO69CX coaxial speaker
  • A Series: the reliable mid-range lineup, from the A1 tweeter to the A275C and A35C midrange drivers, all the way to the A65 coaxial speaker and the A65CS2 component set
  • PNW Series (Pacific Northwest): the premium line featuring the PNW-1 tweeter, midrange drivers, 10- and 13-cm drivers (PNW-4, PNW-525), as well as the PNW-65 and PNW-65CS2

Depending on the model, the RMS power ranges from under 50 to 250 watts. Compact, low-power speakers work well with the factory radio. More powerful models really show their strengths when paired with a separate amplifier. Here’s an example from the PNW series: The PNW-65 has an impedance of 3 ohms, a sensitivity of approximately 89 dB, and an ideal continuous power rating of 75 watts RMS per channel.

What size speakers are right for your car?

The right size is crucial for installation and sound quality. Our selection ranges from models under 10 cm to 20 cm. We also offer a 6x9" oval speaker, which is often installed in rear shelf compartments.

Tweeters such as the A1 and PNW-1, as well as the small 2.75-inch and 3.5-inch midrange drivers, fit in the dashboard, A-pillar, or mirror triangle. 16.5-cm speakers are the standard for the doors. As a coaxial option, you can simply replace the factory speaker; as a component set with a separate tweeter, you’ll get a better soundstage. The existing mounting hole is crucial: Measure the diameter and mounting depth before you buy a speaker.

Music to accompany your drive

Imagine every drive turning into a concert: precise highs, rich mids, and powerful bass that fills your cabin. That’s exactly why AudioControl designs its speakers. The PNW-65, for example, features a poly-mica-coated diaphragm, a hybrid silk dome, and a concentric point-source design in which high and low frequencies radiate from nearly the same point.

For clear midrange, matching midrange drivers are the ideal complement to your front speaker system. With powerful 4-channel amplifiers , you can drive the front and rear speakers cleanly, or bridge two channels for more power. For deep bass, pair the speakers with a compatible subwoofer. Our team will be happy to advise you personally on performance, wiring, and installation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Audio Control Speakers

What size speakers are right for my car?

The right size depends on the available mounting hole. Measure the diameter and mounting depth before you buy a speaker. We carry AudioControl models ranging from under 10 cm to 20 cm, as well as in the 6x9" format:

  • Tweeters and small midrange speakers: dashboard, A-pillar, mirror triangle
  • 10 to 16.5 cm: Doors, available as coaxial or component sets
  • 20 cm and 6x9": larger mounting locations and the rear shelf

Which Audio Control speaker is the best?

There is no single "best" speaker. The key factors are the vehicle, the installation location, and your budget. The EPICPRO Series is the affordable entry-level option, the A Series is the well-balanced mid-range option, and the PNW Series is the premium line offering the highest sound quality.

How do I choose the right RMS power?

RMS power describes the power handling capacity during continuous operation and should match the power output of your amplifier per channel. Depending on the model, AudioControl’s RMS power ranges from less than 50 to 250 watts. Many manufacturers also specify an ideal value; for the PNW-65, for example, it is 75 watts RMS.

How do I set up Audio Control speakers correctly?

Precise tuning is achieved by adjusting the crossover frequency, level, and delay—ideally using an amplifier with a built-in crossover or a DSP. Always drive the tweeters and midrange drivers with a high-pass filter so they don’t have to handle low frequencies. You can find the recommended settings in the user manual, which is available for download on each product page on our website.

What settings prevent the speakers from burning out?

Avoid overloading your speakers by ensuring proper impedance and power matching. Here's how to protect your speakers:

  • Select an amplifier with an impedance that matches the speakers (for example, the PNW-65 has an impedance of 3 ohms)
  • Do not exceed the RMS power continuously and avoid clipping
  • Use a high-pass filter appropriately to reduce the load on the midrange and tweeter drivers

Is it worth getting a subwoofer in addition to the speakers?

Yes, if you want powerful, deep bass. An AudioControl subwoofer handles the low-frequency range, takes the strain off the door speakers, and delivers punchy bass. When using a subwoofer, you can set the high-pass filter on the door speakers to a higher frequency so they sound cleaner and louder.

Are Audio Control speakers any good?

Yes. AudioControl is a well-established U.S. brand in the car audio scene. The speakers impress with their clean craftsmanship and sophisticated technology, such as poly-mica cones, silk domes, and the point-source design of the PNW series. At MT Audio Shop, you can buy them online or pick them up in Pommelsbrunn.

What is the A Series best suited for compared to the PNW Series?

Both series offer tweeters, midrange drivers, 16.5-cm coaxial speakers, and component sets. The A Series is the more affordable, well-balanced choice for factory upgrades. The PNW Series is the premium line, featuring higher-quality materials and a wider selection of models, including 10- and 13-cm drivers.
